The Details on Carl (CV)

Carl Hartman is an expert in corporate and independent small business management with more thirty years experience in growing successful start up companies to holding senior positions with Fortune 100 companies in the entertainment and motion picture industries.

Carl began his training in success strategies during his education at a prestigious Los Angeles prep school. During his first year of undergraduate studies he landed his first management position as the manager of communications and marketing at the defense contractor, Northrup- Grumman, supervising a staff of 25+ in their communications, marketing, audio-visual, photography, motion picture and events. Following his second university degree in Cinema, he grew the company that would eventually become Getty Images. He also worked in editorial and post-production at MCA Universal, Warner Brothers and divisions of Disney.

His work in the electronic gaming software arena produced DOOM-3DO (one of the top selling video games of all time) and Rise of the Robots-3DO for Electronic Arts. He also produced the award winning interactive feature film Chess Wars: a medieval fantasy distributed by GT Interactive.

During the mid-1980’s, Mr. Hartman began working on a method to send video over telephone lines; eventually partnering with Whittaker Defense Systems, IBM and Pacific Bell to develop the technology that would evolve into video on demand.

Carl then returned to corporate leadership as a senior executive at on of the big four television networks to salvage an ailing business unit focused that focused on integrating television and interactive media. Eventually, he grew that organization to be three times more profitable than any other division at the network. He also worked with the producers of Reading Rainbow at PBS, developing several original television series and co-producing episodes for the American Experience; eventually, earning two Emmy Awards. During that period, Mr. Hartman independently produced Amazing Art Adventures, a children’s visual arts educational television series funded by the producer’s of Reading Rainbow and distributed nationally through the Independent Program Service. At the request of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Carl developed the original interactive educational program, The Adventures of Kirby Junxston/Wendy Wise a new concept for children’s science programming on PBS.

His work at PBS received the top award as Best of the Best from the National Educational Telecommunications Association. Additionally, his work for PBS included collaboration with experts at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute and School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University and production of interactive components for Monkey Trial for the American Experience; the only project of more than 80 proof-of-concept submissions, selected for follow-on funding under the CPB Television of Tomorrow initiative that eventually became the foundation for the smart television technology used today. Carl was also an Interactive Media Executive Producer of C.L.A.S.S., a $20 million Star Schools grant from the Department. of Education to create the first accredited on-line distance education high school for at risk students. Several of these projects included groundbreaking research into integrating marketing, neural programming, game design, theatrical story structure, theme park ride design and educational media constructs.

Carl moved on to open an advertising agency that initially serviced the entertainment and music industry, selling multiple unscripted series concepts to PBS and Discovery Studios; and co-production partnership with Ridgeline Entertainment, co-producers of Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch. Clients included MCA/Universal, Warner Brothers Television, Disney, Witt-Thomas-Harris, Donald Belisario, Dreamlight Images, and numerous independent film companies. His work in the music industry includes top names in the Country and gospel genres including Alan Jackson, newsboys, Mulberry Lane, Casting Pearls/VOTA, Rachel James and Remedy Drive, including producing music and concert videos along with large scale events at major venues. His advertising work includes commercials for Foote, Cone & Belding Advertising and DMB&B-Chicago. Traditional advertising clients included RCA, Party City, HobbyTownUSA, Giorgio, Lexus and Walgreens.

During this period, Carl began marketing and advertising work for William Sumner, one of the key people at the Tony Robbins organization as he expanded his own business coaching practice. As a matter of course, this included receiving top level training in their coaching methods. This lead to Mr. Hartman creating his first bestselling book using principles of Neural Languistic Programming within marketing entitled Brandgineering: A 14-Step Powerful & Profitable Brand Development Blueprint for the Digital Marketing Age, a fusion of cinema, human-computer interaction, education, advertising and public relations theory and practice.

While at PBS, Mr. Hartman developed computerized systems to manage multiple large, complex projects (50+) that integrate managing multiple disciplines. Translation: Manage massive projects that may include interactive software, motion picture production, manufacturing of ancillary products such as toys, games, etc. all while accommodating project managers that process information differently. The real issue being that many senior managers in creative industries think in a non-linear fashion, while other individuals within the corporate environment think and process in a linear fashion. Eventually, working with one of the leading experts in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Mr. Hartman used these systems to create a product that assists these individuals to manage businesses or enterprises in new and creative ways that are adapted to their neural processing abilities.

Mr. Hartman opened Brandgineering in late 1999 with his business partner Alan Jurysta MBA, to advise and consult with businesses that require innovative and comprehensive solutions to the gaps that exist in their business. They utilize a team of seasoned business experts to implement the required solutions within the business; addressing processes, analytics, soft skills, mindset, sales, marketing and distribution. Their expertise working in multiple vertical markets includes medical practices, light manufacturing, retail, technology, construction, entertainment software, real estate, insurance, agriculture, alternative fuels, mining, fashion, advertising, and non-profits. Their clients traditionally see 200-400% growth within the contract term. They offer a unique, money back guarantee, to insure their clients receive the specified contractual results.

Carl Hartman holds a B.A. in Cinema from Columbia – Hollywood, an A.S. in Arts & Communications from Moorpark College, Moorpark, CA, and is an alumni of the Business Management program at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
